In the current version, you cannot change the cluster size once afile has been compressed. You must decompress the file first, andthen compress it with the new cluster size.

If you change the compression algorithm for acompressed file, already-compressed clusters will not be recompressedwith the new algorithm. If you want to do so, you should decompress thefile beforecompressing it again with the new algorithm. An exception is made forthe `none’ algorithm: changing from `none’ to some other algorithmresults in the kernel attempting to compress all currently-uncompressedclusters. (Clusters already compressed with some other algorithm areleft compressed in that algorithm.)

Anyway, looked into it, any I say you can safely deletethe two lines that refer to pkt_bridged in klips/net/ipsec/pfkey_v2.c.Could you try just that?greetings,Lennert

Basically, a file is compressed with thecommand `chattr +c filename’, and decompressed with the command`chattr -c filename’. You can also do `chattr +c’ (etc.) on adirectory. The directory itself won’t be compressed, but any new filescreated in that directory inherit that directory’s compress flag andcompression algorithm and cluster size.(1)

Use lsattr to see if a file should be compressed or not, and tosee what compression algorithm and cluster size will be used.

Use e2ratio to see how much disk space is used by the compressedform compared to the uncompressed form.

You can also try the `-u’ or `-r’ options to lsattr.(The difference is that, for directories, e2ratio finds the diskusage of the whole directory tree, like du, whereas `lsattr-u’ only shows the space taken by the directory file, like `ls -s’.)

  • Examples: A typical (and instructive) usage pattern.

Wed, 23 Aug 2000 15:08:39 -0400 When I compile (2.2.16 with 2.2.16 br patch and IPchains-br patch) I get:net/network.a(sock_n_syms.o)(__ksymtab+0x2b8): undefined reference to’ip_fw_check_from_bridge’make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1(as a result of make dep clean Zimage modules modules_install bzlilo)Any ideas? The patch seemed to apply ok. Is there a separate option to turnon IPchains for the bridge (I only saw the option for the bridge)? This question is a little more off-topic: I am running RedHat 6.2, do I need to do a mkinitrd to make a new .img filefor this kernel? Or is following the instructions enough to get a workingkernel? I was under the impression that module support had to be added bydoing an mkinitrd with the contents of /drivers from the new kernel in/lib/modules. Thanks to those who have helped. Just after I get past one brick wall I hitanother =)
